About us

What is Windmill Windup?

The Windmill Windup is a yearly ultimate frisbee tournament held in Amsterdam, comprised of three divisions of play (open, women's and mixed). The three day event is loaded with ultimate frisbee action and off the field antics, resulting in an unforgettable weekend of intense sport and constant fun.

The inaugural Windmill Windup, in 2005 was a great success, and marked the beginning of one of the world's fastest growing tournaments. We had 300 players in 2005, and in 2012, we will host around 1500 of Europe's best ultimate players.

Since year one, we have worked to improve the quality of our tournament, and the increased awareness and scale have allowed us to keep our costs down, while still earning money for our off the field initiatives, such as our push for increased growth in Dutch ultimate by fostering a more involved student ultimate scene, and our connections with charitable organizations.

All of these achievements are made possible by the community of players that show up every year, and the Amsterdam ultimate community, who continue to provide the Windmill the necessary energy and expertise. We strive to provide volunteers and organizers with a platform for creative thinking, and this has been an excellent means for us to learn as we grow.
